May 10, 2010, Monday the Presidential, Legislative and Local elections well be held. Last Tuesday, December 15, 2009 COMELEC Chair Jose Melo announced that there were eight presidential candidates aspiring to be the 15th President of the Philippines, succeeding the throne of President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo.
The Aspirants:
Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III the son of late Senator and martyr Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr, and former President Corazon Aquino that was known as the champions of democratic ideals. Senator Aquino served as a Congressman of the 2nd district of Tarlac from 1998 to 2007. Lat May 2007 he was elected as number 6th senator in a national election. He was hailed to continue the unfinished advocacy of his late parents to protect freedom and democracy. Behind the C-5 road scandal and controversies Senator Manuel Villar pursue his presidential candidacy and aim to succeed PGMA under the Nacionalista Party. In his political debut in 1992 he was elected as a Congressman in Las Pinas and Muntinlupa, three terms in a row. In 1998 he was chosen as a Speaker of the House of Representatives. And in 2001 he was elected as a senator. Villar is well known in his tag line “Sipag at Tiyaga” which inspires Filipinos to achieve their dreams trough hard work and determination. At the age of 43 Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro is the youngest secretary to hold the Department of National Defense portfolio. He is also a current chairman of the National Disaster Coordinating Council. Gibo runs under the banner of administration and the standard bearer of Lakas-Kampi -CMD. After he was ousted from presidency in 2001 Joseph “ERAP” Estrada decided to return to regain his throne and continue his unfinished dynasty. His wide experience in the political arena would be his killer punch to reign once again the Malacnang Palace.
The other four presidential candidates for Philippine polls are Senator Richard Gordon of “Bagumbayan” Senator Ana Cosuelo “ Jamby” Madrigal runs as independent , Brother Eddie Villanueva of “Bangon Pilipinas” and JC delos Reyes of “Ang Kapatiran”.
